Work done at Kustom Kulture On the left you can click any of the links to see the various galleries of my work. I tend to specialise in portraits (people and animals), cover-ups and custom work, which often includes large Japanese pieces and hot-rod/new-skool funky designs. The type work I do is not limited to what you see here. I have hundreds of thousands of designs to give you inspiration and internet access on site. I like to do tattoos that are original and I'll happily help you out. But please do your own research too - you can bring in any design or idea and I can work something out for you. Don't forget you can also visit the Painless Chris Ltd. website to see work by Chris Thomas and Steve Black. Chris enjoys doing classic, traditional designs and Steve is another custom artist who enjoys Japanese but also knowledgeable about comic-book and graffiti art. Some advice about fashion and tattoos People often ask me if I think that tattoos will go out of fashion. If you think tattoos are a fashion accessory, you REALLY shouldn't have one. They're permanent for goodness sake and therefore they transcend anything as frivolous as fashion! However, I do believe there are "fashions" within tattooing, which is a shame. Fashion tattoos date the wearer and scream "I don't have a mind of my own". Tattoos should be taken seriously - even the little ones. They will be with you "for life plus 6 months" so you need to make sure you choose a tattoo which will be a pleasure for a lifetime. Here are a few pointers on how to avoid falling into the "fashion" pitfall. My attitude to tattoos is that they should be an expression of you and your personality. Okay, it's only my (professional) opinion, but please don't have tattoos that your friends have got. Tattoos are about individuality and I think copying friends tattoos is lazy and lame. There are so many tattoo styles and designs available nowadays that there is no excuse for having the same thing as 2000 people before you. Stars are this year's fashion. Last year it was lettering and before that it was Japanese symbols. When tattoos become a fashion accessory, that goes against everything that tattoos are about. Take tribal bands - very "1980s" and went right out of popularity when Pamela Anderson got one and they became a gay icon! So how to avoid the fashion pitfall? Firstly take no notice of what your friends have got, other than to make a mental note NOT to have the same! Secondly, think about your lifestyle, interests, hobbies, etc. Think about what makes you YOU. For instance, I love painting and drawing as well as tattooing, so I have tattoos of a funky paintbrush, a bursting tube of paint, a girly tattoo machine and even, yes, a pencil sharpener! Now I'm not suggesting you need to go too weird here, but by thinking "outside the box", YOU can also come up with something quirky and cool. My other tattoos include juke-boxes, a saxophone, double-bass, music notes, etc. which reflects my love of music and rock-n-roll in particular. This is ME. Your list will probably be completely different and good for you! Express your individuality - DON'T BE A SHEEP! Once you've decide what represents YOU, come to see us. Bring a list if you like. Use the internet and books and so on. Do some research and you will be so much more pleased with a tattoo that represents you and that you have helped to design. Sorry if this sounds like a lecture - I just want to inspire people to be original with their tattoo choices and happy with their body art for life!
